Stuff and More Stuff

Wow...its been a while since I've posted! Well, we have finally moved all of our belongings to our new place on 15th St. Now, we just need to figure out where everything is going to go. The one thing I like about this is that it really forces us to go through all of our things and decide what we can live without. Its a difficult process since we seem to have a problem with letting things go if we have sentimental memories of it, even if we don't use them anymore. But, the first step is to admit you have a problem, right??!

We're trying to hurry and get things unpacked since we are leaving for Arizona next week. We are back for a day and then we leave for upstate NY for another week. It will be great to take this time to visit family! We are really looking forward to it.

Baby-wise - still getting bigger every day! Had my monthly doctor's appointment on Monday and all is well. I will have to take a 1-hour glucose test early next week to see if I have gestational diabetes. This is a routine test done at 26 weeks, and hopefully all will be well. After my next doctor's appointment, I'll have appointments every 2 weeks until 36 weeks and then weekly. Yikes! That doesn't seem too far away...

We are also trying to decide if we are going to paint the baby room or leave it as-is (white) and accent it with color instead. (I'm not too keen on the idea of re-painting the room back to white when we move out...ugh.) We'll probably focus on this later in July/August --- can't wait to get it all together!

Baby Kicks

For a couple of weeks now, I have been able to feel the baby kick. At first, I wasn't sure what it was since it was a very light tapping sensation. But, each week the feeling gets a little bit stronger. Usually, the baby is active between 9:30 - 10:30 at night. A little night owl!

This week, Jason was able to feel it for himself for the first time. : )

We're Moving!

That's right, folks - we found a place to move into! As many of you know, our lease is up in a month. Our apartment management has decided to increase our rent to an amount we can't afford at this time (rent control, anyone?). So, we decided to take a look to see what is out there - specifically, we were hoping to find a house, with a garage, backyard, and all appliances (including dishwasher & washer/dryer) for the same price we are paying now. I know - it sounds like a bad joke in this day and age when rents are increasing due to more demand in the rental market. There is more demand now due to all of the individuals/familes who have to rent due to home foreclosures. So, there were pretty slim-pickings -- especially for a house. We went to one open house in Santa Clara which was just horrible - really bad paint job (paint on all of the fixtures and about 1 in. around each window) and rat/mouse droppings, with no appliances except an ancient range. No thank you!! Another one had a wood-paneled intercom system / radio built into the wall in a few rooms that reminded me of something out of LOST or the 1960's. There were a few nice ones we visited, but there was always something just a bit off (neighborhood, sharing the lot with another unit, etc.) until we found the house on North 15th Street!

Its a nicely kept up, older craftsman house, 2bedroom/1 bath, hardwood floors, ALL appliances, garage, basement, yard (with a lawn and flowers - no dirt lot - yippee!!!), decent neighborhood, and recent paint job.

I'm a happy camper because:

1. We are leaving our crazy, loud, obnoxious downstairs neighbors
2. Won't have to "buzz" people in the gate when they come and visit
3. We won't have to schlep everything (including myself) up 3 flights of stairs
4. There is a yard - we can actually spend time outside
5. We won't have to find a stable come October...LOL.

We will move into the house starting 6/14 and can't wait for you all to come and visit. We'll send out our new contact info as the date gets closer... can you tell I am so excited??!

P.S. Some of you may be wondering "Why don't they just buy? Its the perfect time!". True, very true. And, we have saved $ up for part of a down payment, but we will feel more comfortable with a mortgage once we are both working. Can't really swing it on one salary alone. So, once I head back to work, that will be our # 1 priority. Hoping (for us) that the prices will continue to stay the same or go down....
